History

Uniself – Sociedade de Restaurantes Públicos e Privados, S.A. is a Portuguese company specialized in the management and operation of catering and food services. Founded in 1981, Uniself is dedicated to the management of cafeterias, canteens and other food spaces, with a particular focus on collective food services environments.

Over the years, the company has consolidated itself as a strong name in the institutional food sector, offering solutions both for the public sector, such as Schools, Hospitals, Prisons and Public Companies or Public Entities and for the private market, such as IPSS’s, Nursing Homes, Day-Care Centers, Private Companies and Large Organizations.

Uniself’s objective is to provide quality food, adapted to the needs of its customers and respecting nutritional and health requirements.

Among Uniself’s main activities are the Management of Canteens, Cafeterias, Restaurants and Catering Services, with a commitment to quality and sustainability.

The company is also known for its concern for the nutrition and well-being of consumers, offering balanced menus adapted to different dietary needs.

Throughout its history, Uniself has been an example of social and corporate responsibility, guaranteeing excellence in the services it provides an approach focused on the satisfaction of its clients and customers.

Certifications

The main objectives of our Integrated Management System are to define the methods and responsibilities of the main processes, to ensure the continuous involvement of all employees, to guarantee customer satisfaction and to constantly improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes.

Uniself has adopted a Quality Management System based on the NP EN ISO 9001 standard for the “Provision of Public and Private Catering Services”, which applies to both the Head Office, Factory and the Operational Units.

In addition, the company has implemented an Integrated Management System at its Head Office and Factory for the ‘Production and Distribution of Pasteurised and Deep-Frozen Meals’, which includes the following standards, NP EN ISO 9001 (Quality), NP EN ISO 22000 (Food Safety), NP EN ISO 14001 (Environment) and NP ISO 45001 (Health and Safety at Work).

Environment and Safety

Environmental concerns and the promotion of safety in the workplace are key factors that cannot be separated from the rest of the company’s activities. Only by exploiting synergies in all areas can we achieve positive and sustainable results.

When defining the construction project for the head office and factory facilities, the use of energy recovery equipment was considered, such as an ice bank that accumulates energy during the night, when it is cheaper and less consumed, to be used during the day in the working process.

In the case of water, closed-loop systems are used in all equipment where possible, encouraging the reuse and non-waste of this increasingly scarce natural resource.

Also, in the context of environmental concerns, decarbonization measures have included the installation of more than 1260 solar panels with an estimated energy production of more than 1,130MW/Y – Megawatts per Year.

In terms of vehicle fleet, we are in the process of converting to an increasingly electric fleet, already reaching 60 Electric Vehicles, thus contributing to the mitigation of climate change and promoting the reduction of carbon emissions.

Correct waste management, in which waste is sorted and sent for recycling, are some of the procedures established to promote and contribute to a healthier environment and respect for environmental policies.

With regard to safety in the workplace, nothing has been left to chance. The administrative floor with spacious offices, well-lit with natural light and appropriate furniture, are some of the features of this building that make it possible to provide the right conditions in terms of hygiene and safety at work. In the manufacturing area, all the infrastructures and equipment allow for comfort and the correct performance of activities, minimising any risk associated with the job as much as possible.
